Hi! I'm Lori,

Physical Nutrition - Let's Get Curious!

Published 6 months ago • 3 min read

Hello, Reader!

How are you today?
I wanted to pop back in and share some more tips and ideas about keeping yourself feeling physically on your game. No time to read it all? That's okay! Pick one area below to focus on and let the rest go. Small steps take us up big mountains - one small item (step!) below is all you need.

1). Stop Comparing.
What makes you, well, you? What is one unique appreciation you have for yourself? What might you wish you had that someone else has? In this moment, I encourage you to focus on that APPRECIATION - let go of jealousy, bitterness, shame and envy. Take time to work through this with your Creator, a good friend, pastor or a coach.

2). Get Curious.
Do you struggle with what foods to eat, when and why? Do you struggle to know when to exercise and when to skip it? Use some of these questions to help you process and make great decisions for YOU. The more we can let go of judgement, the more easily we can move on from guilt or shameful thoughts. Curiosity stops judgement in its tracks and frees up space for mental clarity, focus and clear decision-making.

Try it - it truly works!!

Some simple curiosity questions (& get creative for yourself!):

Food

  • What am I wanting to eat? Why?
  • What is my body telling me it needs versus wants?
  • Hmmm… isn’t it interesting that I am choosing to eat ...
  • What is the experience that I’m going for in making this choice?

Movement

  • Do I need to exercise my body or rest?
  • How will I feel after I get movement?
  • How will I feel after I rest for ______ (amount of time)?
  • What would ______ do for me?
  • Am I choosing rest for the reasons to truly rest my brain and body or to be lazy?

3). What foods are high energy foods for you?
What foods do you love? Do these foods provide a short or long dose of energy? Something I love, but gives me a short burst of energy before crashing, is COFFEE! I also have to watch my sugar intake because I am hypoglycemic. After 20 years of learning how to eat well for my body, it has become pretty easy for me to know what is helpful for me and what is not. However, the coffee situation is HARD! My husband loves coffee - I often want to join him for a cup in the morning. But when I do, I am quickly reminded that my mental brain does NOT appreciate that coffee - I simply do not mentally function as well when I have it. I try to drink mushroom coffee OR have a cup of Joe after lunch, versus first thing when I wake up. This is an area I am learning to be more disciplined in - but I certainly do not always succeed. I have to use that curiosity over judgement to work through making better habit choices.

For more about health and nutrition, we have LOTS of resources, such as:

  • Non-inflammatory foods list; how to eat chocolate (if you're a chocolate lover like me); best convenience store foods; 4-day energy quiz; the magic plate; magic snacks; the movement menu

4). Want to improve your digestion? Then, breathe and pray. (The slower you eat, the faster you metabolize.)
Breathing before and during meals is a great way to help you become a relaxed eater and boost your metabolic power. You can also do this in your car, at work, before bed. Even when there’s chaos going on throughout your day, pay attention to who you are being. Can you relax into the chaos? Some people think if they're relaxed that they won’t get as much done. But relaxing isn’t necessarily about non-doing, it’s about who you are being. Practice using conscious breath throughout the day and working in the rhythm of relaxation. You’ll find that you are more focused, more productive and more energized. It’s very exhausting to be in that stressed state all of the time. You’re using up a lot of energy and still storing a lot of fat. The more we are in a relaxed state, the easier our digestive system works!
